Eligibility Information for the American Legion:
If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces (US Navy, US Army, US Marines, US Coast Guard, US Air Force, US Space Force) during any of the war eras listed below, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving -- you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!
*December 7, 1941 to Present
April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918(World War I)
*Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
U.S. Merchant Marine eligible only from December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (WWII).

Interested in joining the American Legion Auxiliary, please join us at our monthly meeting which is the First Wednesday of the month. Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to:
1. The grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, direct and adopted female descendants of members of
a. The American Legion
b. Those who served in the Armed Forces of the United States during any of the
allowable eligibility periods determined by congress, and who died in the line of
duty during such service or after receiving an Honorable Discharge.
2. Women who are eligible for membership in The American Legion in their own right
3. The spouses of an eligible veteran.
Direct descendants refers to: daughters and granddaughters. Under the laws in the state of Wisconsin step-relatives are eligible to become members through a qualifying veteran.https://www.amlegionauxwi.org/membership-1

DD-214 Discharge Papers Auxiliary members need to supply a copy of DD-214 discharge papers for the relative through whom their eligibility is established.
